The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met in camera at 12:15 p.m. this day, the Chairman, the Honourable Ron Ghitter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Cochrane, Ghitter, Kenny and Taylor.(5)

In attendance: Lynne Myers from the Library of Parliament.

The Committee proceeded to consider future business.

The Honourable Senator Kenny moved - THAT up to 8 Senators and 2 staff, Line Gravel and Lynne Myers, travel on the fact-finding visit to Alberta, June 3-7, 1996, and that the Committee reimburse their expenses.

The question being put on the motion, it was -

Resolved in the affirmative.

The Honourable Senator Kenny informed the Members of the next meetings on June 11 and June 12, 1996 concerning former Bill S-7.

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met at 9:10 a.m. this day, the Chairman, the Honourable Ronald D. Ghitter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Cochrane, Ghitter, Kenny, Kirby, Spivak and Taylor.(7)

In attendance: Lynne Myers from the Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From the London Police Department:

Gar Irwin.

From the Niagara Regional Police:

Harry Lewis, Fleet and Store Manager.

From the RCMP:

Dale Boire, Chief Superintendent and Acting Director;

Alfred A. Dupuis, OIC, Materiel & Service Management Branch;

Don VanDusen, OIC, Fleet Program Administration.

From Superior Propane Inc.:

Robert Yarnell, Director, Corporate Affairs.

The Committee, in compliance with its Order of Reference dated Wednesday, March 27, 1996, proceeded to monitor all matters related to the implementation and application of the Act to accelerate the use of alternative fuels for motor vehicles (previously S-7). (See Proceedings of the Committee dated April 30, 1996)

Mr. Irwin and Mr. Lewis made statements and answered questions.

Mr. Dupuis made a statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

Mr. Yarnell made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:50 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
