The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met at 9:00 a.m., this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Austin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Austin, Chalifoux, Christensen, DeWare, Gill, Pearson, Sibbeston, St. Germain, P.C. and Tkachuk (10).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Grafstein, Sparrow and Wilson (3).

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley and Tonina Simeone; from the Senate Committees Directorate: Josée Thérien, Legislative Clerk.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2000, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-9, An Act to give effect to the Nisga'a Final Agreement. (See Issue No. 3, Wednesday, February 16, 2000 for full text of the Order of Reference.)

Professor Sanders made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 10:05 Bruce Newton made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 10:40 a.m., Phil Eidsvik made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 11:25 a.m., Mary G. Dalen made an opening statement.

Mary Dalen tabled a map with the clerk of the Committee, which was retained as Exhibit 5900 A1/C-9, 6 "1".

At 11:50 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

At 9:15 p.m., Bill Wimpney made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 9:20 p.m., the Honourable Senator St. Germain, Deputy Chair, took the Chair.

Bill Wimpney answered questions.

At 9:30 p.m., the Honourable Senator Austin, returned to the Chair.

Bill Wimpney continued to answer questions.

At 9:35 p.m., Neil Sterritt and Larry Skulsh made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 10:40 p.m., Glen Williams and Peter Hutchins made an opening statement.

At 11:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
