Extract from the Journals of the Senate of Tuesday, May 9, 2000:

Resuming debate on the motion of the Honourable Senator Pépin, seconded by the Honourable Senator Maheu, for the second reading of Bill C-23, An Act to modernize the Statutes of Canada in relation to benefits and obligations.

After debate,

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted on division.

The Bill was then read the second time on division.

The Honourable Senator Pépin moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Carstairs, that the Bill be referred to the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs.
