The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met at9:05 a.m., this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Chalifoux, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chalifoux, Christensen, Cochrane, Gill, Hubley, Léger and Pearson (7).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley and Tonina Simeone.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, September 27, 2001, the committee continued its examination of issues affecting urban Aboriginal youth, in particular, access, provision and delivery of services, policy and jurisdictional issues, employment and education, access to economic opportunities, youth participation and empowerment, and other related matters. (See Issue No. 6, Tuesday, October 23, 2001, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

WITNESSES:

From the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples:

Dwight A. Dorey, National Chief;

Jamie Gallant, Youth and Labour Market Intern.

Chief Dorey, along with Ms Gallant, made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 10:30 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
