The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 6:07 p.m., in Room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Peter A. Stollery, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Austin, P.C., Bolduc, Carney, P.C., Corbin, De Bané, P.C., Di Nino, Grafstein, Graham, P.C., Setlakwe, and Stollery (11).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Tunney and Prud'homme, P.C.

In attendance: John Wright, Research Officer, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESS:

From the Senate of Canada:

The Honourable Senator Tunney.

The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to its study on developments in Russia and the Ukraine (See committee proceedings of March 13, 2001, Issue No. 1).

The Honourable Senator Tunney made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:53 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 4:00 p.m., in Room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Peter A. Stollery, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Austin, P.C., Bolduc, Carney, P.C., Corbin,De Bané, P.C., Di Nino, Grafstein, and Stollery (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Marcel Prud'homme.

From the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta:

Professor Bohdan Klid;

Professor David Marples.

The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to its study on developments in Russia and the Ukraine (See committee proceedings of March 13, 2001, Issue No. 1).

Professor Marples and Professor Klid made statements and answered questions.

It was agreed - That the answer Senator Corbin received concerning his question on the Canadian Embassy in Moscow becomes part of the record of the committee. (See appendix page 9A:1.)

At 6:00 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
