The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 3:35p.m., in Room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Peter A. Stollery, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Austin, P.C., Bolduc, Corbin, De Bané, P.C.,Di Nino, Grafstein, Graham, P.C and Stollery (9).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Prud'h omme, P.C., and Roche (2).

In attendance: Peter Berg and John Wright, Research Officers, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 1, 2001, the committee began to examine such issues as may arise from time to time relating to foreign relations generally.

The committee received Minister Manley to answer questions on the Performance Report 1999-2000 of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

APPEARING:

The Honourable John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

WITNESS:

From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade:

Mr. Gaëtan Lavertu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Honourable John Manley made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
