The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 6:05 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Peter A. Stollery, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Austin, P.C., Bolduc, Corbin, Cordy, De Bané, P.C., Grafstein, Graham, P.C., Losier-Cool, and Stollery (10).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Pépin and Phalen (2).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament, John Wright and Robin McKay, Research Officers.

The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to its study of Bill C-35 An Act to Amend the Foreign Missions and Organizations Act. (See committee proceedings of February 20, 2002, Issue No. 22.)

It was agreed, on division, — That Clause 1 carry.

It was agreed, on division, — That Clause 2 carry.

It was agreed, on division, — That Clause 3 carry.

It was agreed, on division, — That Clause 4 carry.

It was agreed, on division, — That Clause 5 carry.

It was agreed, on division, — That Clause 6 carry.

It was agreed, on division, — That Bill C-35 be adopted.

It was agreed, on division, — That the Chairman report to the Senate that Bill C-35, An Act to Amend the Foreign Missions and Organizations Act, has been adopted without amendment.

On recommendation from the Honourable Senator Austin, it was agreed That section 86(1)(h) of the Rules of the Senate of Canada, which describes the mandate of the committee on Foreign Affairs, should be amended to add the word Francophonie after the word Commonwealth.

At 7:20 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
