The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 10:05 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Peter Stollery, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Bolduc, P.C., De Bané, P.C., Grafstein, Graham, P.C., Setlakwe, and Stollery (6).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Di Nino (1).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament, John Wright and Peter Berg, Research Officers.

The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to its study on developments in Russia and Ukraine. (See committee proceedings of March 31, 2001, Issue No. 1.)

At 10:05 a.m., Mr. Jacuta and Mr. Makowecki made statements and answered questions.

At 11:05 a.m. Mr. Witer made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:00 p.m. the committee suspended its work.

At 1:00 p.m. the committee resumed its work.

At 1:00 p.m. Mr. Czolij and Mr. Hawaleshka made statements and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 2:30 p.m. Mr. Subtelny made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:30 p.m. the Honourable Gar Knutson made a statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:15 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
