The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, at 3:52 p.m., the Chair, the Honourable Michael Kirby, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cook, Cordy, Fairbairn, P.C., Keon, Kirby, Morin, Pépin, Robertson and Roche (10).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore and Howard Chodos.

Also in attendance: From the office of Senator Cordy: James MacNeil, from the office of Senator Kirby: Jeff MacLeod, from the office of Senator Pépin: Momar Diagne, from the office of Senator Roche: Todd Martin, from the office of Senator Callbeck: Mary Moore, from the office of Senator Fairbairn: Megan Cain, from the office of Senator Robertson: Ross McKean and staff from the Page Programme, Interpretation Services and the Senate Messengers.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 1, 2001, the Committee continued its consideration of the special study on the state of the health care system in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Mr. Jack Mintz, President and CEO.

The Chair made a statement.

Mr. Mintz made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:20 p.m. the committee continued in camera.

The committee considered a draft outline of the Volume Six of its reports on the health care study.

At 5:50 p.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
