The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met at 4:15 p.m., this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable Marjory LeBreton, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cook, Fairbairn, P.C., Keon, LeBreton and Morin (6).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 23, 2002, the Committee continued its consideration of Bill C-8, An Act to protect human health and safety and the environment by regulating products used for the control of pests. (For complete text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Pollution Probe:

Sandra Schwartz, Director, Toxic Substances Program.

The Deputy Chair made a statement.

It was agreed — That Senator Morin take the Chair.

At 4:16 p.m. Senator Morin took the Chair.

Mr. Gaudet, Ms. Sears and Ms. Mackay made statements and answered questions.

Mr. DeMarco made a statement and answered questions.

Ms. Schwartz made a statement and answered questions.

Dr. Gilka made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:32 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
