The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 9:05 a.m. in Room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Chalifoux presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chalifoux, Christensen, Pearson, Sibbeston and Tkachuk (5).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Tonina Simeone.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 29, 2002, the committee continued its examination of issues affecting urban Aboriginal youth in Canada, in particular, access, provision and delivery of services, policy and jurisdictional issues, employment and education, access to economic opportunities, youth participation and empowerment, and other related matters.

WITNESS:

From Trent University:

David Newhouse, Associate Professor and Chair, Native Studies.

Mr. Newhouse made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 10:25 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
