The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day in camera, at 9:05 a.m. in room 160, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Chalifoux, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chalifoux, Chaput, Christensen, Léger, Pearson, Stratton and Tkachuk (7).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Rompkey, P.C., and St. Germain, P.C. (2).

In attendance: Tonina Simeone, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament; Kate McCarthy, office of the Honourable Senator Johnson; Karen Roberts, office of the Honourable Senator Chalifoux and Kornelia Mankowski, office of the Honourable Senator Carstairs.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 29, 2002, the Committee continued its examination of issues affecting urban aboriginal youth in Canada, in particular, access, provision and delivery of services, policy and jurisdictional issues, employment and education, access to economic opportunities, youth participation and empowerment, and other related matters.

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee proceeded to the consideration of a draft agenda.

At 10:10 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 6:30 p.m. in room 160, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Chalifoux, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chalifoux, Chaput, Christensen, Léger, Pearson, Sibbeston and Stratton (7).

In attendance: Tonina Simeone, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 29, 2002, the Committee continued its examination of issues affecting urban aboriginal youth in Canada, in particular, access, provision and delivery of services, policy and jurisdictional issues, employment and education, access to economic opportunities, youth participation and empowerment, and other related matters.

WITNESSES:

From the Native Alliance of Quebec:

Mr. Pierre Nolet, President (Region 3).

From the Centre for Native Education, Concordia University:

Ms. Manon Tremblay, Coordinator.

From the Native Friendship Centre of Montreal:

Mr. Eric Ravenelle, Secretary, Board of Directors.

Mr. Nolet, Ms. Tremblay, and Mr. Ravenelle each made a presentation and together answered questions.

At 8:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
