The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 6:22 p.m. in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Thelma J. Chalifoux.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Austin P.C., Carney, P.C., Chalifoux, Chaput, Gill, Léger and Stratton (8).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin, St. Germain, P.C. and Watt (3).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Research Officer

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, September 25, 2003, the committee proceeded to examine Bill C-6, to establish the Canadian Centre for the Independent Resolution of First Nations Specific Claims to provide for the filing, negotiation and resolution of specific claims and to make related amendments to other acts.

WITNESS:

Professor Larry Chartrand, Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa.

Mr. Chartrand made a presentation and answered questions.

At 7:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
