The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met in camera at 4:09 p.m., this day, in room 2, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Art Eggleton, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Cook, Cordy, Eggleton, P.C., Fairbairn, P.C., Munson and Nancy Ruth (7).

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament Research Branch: Sonya Norris, Research Analyst, Science and Technology Division and Odette Madore, Research Analyst, Economics Division.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

At 4:09 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e) the committee proceeded in camera for the purpose of considering a draft agenda.

At 4:35 p.m., the committee suspended its sitting.

At 5:04 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting and reconvened in public.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 22, 2006, the committee continued its study on the issue of funding for the treatment of autism. (See Issue No. 9, Thursday, November 2, 2006, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

APPEARING:

The Honourable Mary Anne Chambers, Minister of Children and Youth Services of Ontario.

The Honourable Mary Anne Chambers made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:22 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

Dr. Blake Woodside, Chairman of the Board.

Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry:

Dr. Pippa Moss, Clinical Psychiatrist in Nova Scotia.

Canadian Paediatric Association:

Dr. S. G. Wendy Roberts, The Hospital for Sick Children of Toronto.

Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists:

Tracie L. Lindblad, Director and Speech-Language Pathologist.

Canadian Psychological Association:

Dr. Karen Cohen, Associate Executive Director.

Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists:

Dr. Mary Law, Associate Dean and Director, School of Rehabilitation Science, McMaster University.

Dr. Woodside, Dr. Moss and Dr. Roberts each made a statement. Together the witnesses answered questions.

At 12 p.m., Tracie L. Lindblad, Dr. Cohen and Dr. Law each made a statement. Together the witnesses answered questions.

At 1:04 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
