The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met at 4:13 p.m., this day, in room 2, Victoria Building, the Honourable Art Eggleton, P.C., Chair, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cochrane, Cordy, Eggleton P.C., Fairbairn, P.C., Keon, Munson and Nancy Ruth (8).

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament Research Branch: Sonya Norris, Research Analyst, Science and Technology Division and Odette Madore, Research Analyst, Economics Division.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 22, 2006, the committee continued its study on the issue of funding for the treatment of autism. (See Issue No. 9, Thursday, November 2, 2006, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

WITNESSES:

Dr. Sheila Laredo;

Kristian Hooker;

Brigitte Harrisson;

Jason Oldford;

Daniel Hatton.

John Erb, Lisa Simmermon, Sheila Laredo and Andrew Kavchak each made a statement. Together, the witnesses answered questions.

At 5:10 p.m., the committee suspended its sitting.

At 5:15 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting.

Kristian Hooker, Brigitte Harrisson, Jason Oldford and Daniel Hatton each made a statement. Together, the witnesses answered questions.

At 6:20 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

At 12:14 p.m., the committee resumed its sitting and pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee met in camera to consider its future agenda.

It was agreed that staff be permitted to stay.

At 1:10 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
