The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 9:30 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Gerry St. Germain, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Brazeau, Campbell, Demers, Lovelace Nicholas, Munson, Patterson, Raine, St. Germain, P.C., and White (10).

In attendance: Shauna Troniak, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the committee continued its consideration on the evolving legal and political recognition of the collective identity and rights of the Métis in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 14.)

WITNESSES:

Health Canada:

Kathy Langlois, Director General, Community Programs Directorate, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch.

Public Health Agency of Canada:

Marla Israel, Acting Director General, Centre for Health Promotion.

Ms. Langlois made a statement and, together with Ms. Israel, answered questions.

At 10:25 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
