The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 6:45 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Vernon White, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Campbell, Demers, Dyck, Lovelace Nicholas, Patterson, Raine, Seth, Sibbeston and White (10).

In attendance: Shauna Troniak and Wren Nasr, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the committee continued its consideration on the evolving legal and political recognition of the collective identity and rights of the Métis in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 14.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Métis Council — Intertribal:

Tanya Dubé, Secretary/Treasurer and Board Member.

Eastern Woodland Métis Nation of Nova Scotia:

Jerome Downey, Federal Government Liaison.

Ms. Dubé and Mr. Downey each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 7:50 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
