The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met in camera this day, at 6:46 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Vernon White, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Dyck, Lovelace Nicholas, Meredith, Munson, Patterson, Raine, Seth, Sibbeston and White (10).

In attendance: Shauna Troniak and Wren Nasr, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 13, 2012, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-27, An Act to enhance the financial accountability and transparency of First Nations.

WITNESSES:

First Nations Financial Management Board:

Harold Calla, Chairman;

Shayla Point, Senior Manager of Legal and Corporate Services.

Rosen & Associates Limited:

Alan Mak, Principal.

As individuals:

Michael Benedict, First Nations Tax Consultant;

Beverly Brown, Member, Squamish First Nation.

Mr. Calla, Ms. Point and Mr. Mak each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 7:48 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:54 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Benedict and Ms. Brown each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 9:11 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
