The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 9:18 a.m., in Scandia Rooms 2&3, at the Valhalla Inn Hotel, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Glen Patterson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dyck, Lovelace Nicholas, Moore, Patterson, Raine, Sibbeston and Tannas (7).

In attendance: Julie Cool and Martha Butler, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, the committee continued its consideration of the challenges and potential solutions relating to First Nations infrastructure on reserves. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4.)

WITNESSES:

Temagami First Nation:

Elizabeth (Liz) Potts, Housing Coordinator.

Mishkeegogamang First Nation:

Connie Gray-McKay, Chief;

Donna Roundhead, Mental Health Counsellor.

Lac Seul First Nation:

Basil Goodchild, Housing Manager.

Eagle Lake First Nation:

Arnold Gardner, Chief.

Constance Lake First Nation:

Charles Baxter, Sr., Housing Manager.

The Honourable Senator Moore moved:

That media be permitted to film the day's proceedings.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Ms. Potts made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:39 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:06 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Gray-McKay, Mr. Goodchild, Mr. Gardner and Mr. Baxter each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 1:09 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
