The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 9:01 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christmas, Doyle, Enverga, Lovelace Nicholas, Pate, Patterson, Tannas and Watt (8).

In attendance: Geneviève Guindon, Communications Officer (Committees) and Kate McCarthy, Stakeholder Outreach Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 15, 2016, the committee continued its study on the new relationship between Canada and First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 16.)

WITNESSES:

Youth Ottawa:

Emma Buchanan, Coordinator, Ottawa Youth Engagement Committee;

Theland Kicknosway;

Daxton Rhead;

William Komaksiutiksak.

The chair made a statement.

It was agreed that photographers be authorized to photograph today's committee proceedings.

Mr. Kicknosway, Mr. Rhead, and Mr. Komaksiutiksak, each made statements and, together with Ms. Buchanan, answered questions.

At 10:14 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
