The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:47 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christmas, Doyle, Dyck, Lovelace Nicholas, McCallum, Pate, Patterson, Raine and Tannas (9).

In attendance: Brittany Collier and Michael Chalupovitsch, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 15, 2016, the committee continued its study on the new relationship between Canada and First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 16.)

Francyne Joe, President;

Veronica Rudyk, Policy Advisor.

National Association of Friendship Centres:

Christopher Sheppard, President.

The chair made a statement.

The committee considered a draft budget.

It was agreed that the following special study budget application (Study on the new relationship between Canada and First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples), for $1,900 for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budget and Administration following a final review by the Senate Administration that will be overseen by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure.

Ms. Joe and Mr. Sheppard made a statement and, together with Ms. Rudyk, answered questions.

At 8:33 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
