The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day, at 8:06 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable W. David Angus, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Johnson, Lang, Martin, Massicotte, Mitchell, Seidman, Sibbeston and Wallace (9).

In attendance: Marc LeBlanc and Sam Banks, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 3, 2012, the committee continued its examination of the subject-matter of those elements contained in Part 3 of Bill C-38, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 22.)

WITNESSES:

Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq Chiefs:

Morley Watson, Regional Chief of Assembly of First Nations Saskatchewan;

William David, Policy Analyst, Environmental Stewardship Unit;

Dan Pujdak, Policy Analyst, Environmental Stewardship Unit.

The chair made an opening statement.

It was agreed that coverage by electronic media of the committee's public proceedings with the least possible disruption of its hearings be permitted.

Ms. Morse made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:39 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:46 a.m., the committee resumed.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Paul and Mr. Watson each made a statement and, together with Mr. Wildsmith and Mr. David, answered questions.

At 10:21 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
