The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 7:12 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Glen Patterson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dyck, Enverga, McIntyre, Moore, Ngo, Patterson, Tannas, Wallace and Watt (10).

In attendance: Martha Butler, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, the committee began its consideration of Bill C-428, An Act to amend the Indian Act (publication of by-laws) and to provide for its replacement.

WITNESSES:

Rob Clarke, M.P., sponsor of the bill;

Georganne Burke, Director, Indigenous Outreach, Office of Rob Clarke, M.P.

Board of St. Kateri Catholic School:

Dorine Rabbit, Chair;

Wallace Manyfingers, Member.

Mr. Clarke made a statement and, together with Ms. Burke, answered questions.

Mr. Manyfingers and Ms. Rabbit each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 9:08 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
