The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:49 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boniface, Christmas, Doyle, Dyck, Lovelace Nicholas, McCallum, McPhedran, Pate, Patterson and Tannas (10).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Boyer, Coyle and Sinclair (3).

In attendance: Brittany Collier and Michael Chalupovitsch, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Síofra McAllister, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 15, 2016, the committee continued its study on the new relationship between Canada and First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 16.)

It was agreed that the Communications Directorate be authorized to take photos during the hearing.

Ms. McMonagle, Ms. Bernard, and Ms. Brown made statements and answered questions.

At 7:15 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:35 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Fredlund, Mr. Swappie, Ms. Trudeau, Ms. Kaviok, Ms. Harper, and Mr. Wolf made statements and answered questions.

At 7:54 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:10 p.m., the committee resumed.

At 9:39 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
