The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christmas, Coyle, Doyle, Dyck, Francis, LaBoucane- Benson, Lovelace Nicholas, McCallum, McPhedran, Pate, Patterson and Tannas (12).

In attendance: Brittany Collier and Marlisa Tiedemann, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 28, 2019, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of Bill C-91, An Act respecting Indigenous languages.

WITNESSES:

Assembly of First Nations:

Perry Bellegarde, National Chief;

Roger Jones, Special Advisor to the National Chief.

Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami:

Natan Obed, President;

Tim Argetsinger, Political Advisor.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Bellegarde made a statement and, together with Mr. Jones, answered questions.

At 7:47 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:53 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Obed made a statement and, together with Mr. Argetsinger, answered questions.

At 9:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
