The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 4:22 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Serge Joyal, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Boniface, Carignan, P.C., Dupuis, Gold, Joyal, P.C., McIntyre, Sinclair and White (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Pratte (1).

In attendance: Julian Walker and Maxime Charron-Tousignant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 6, 2016, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-202, An Act to amend the Divorce Act (shared parenting plans).

WITNESSES:

The Honourable Roger Gallaway, P.C., former Member of Parliament.

Marie-Christine Kirouack, Past President of the AAADFQ and lawyer emeritus.

National Association of Women and the Law:

Pamela Cross, Member (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Linde, Mr. Johnson and the Honourable Roger Gallaway each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:14 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:26 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Boyd, Ms. Kirouack and Ms. Cross each made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:29 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
