The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 10:39 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Serge Joyal, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Boisvenu, Carignan, P.C., Dupuis, Gold, Joyal, P.C., Pratte and Simons (8).

In attendance: Julian Walker and Maxime Charron-Tousignant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-58, An Act to amend the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 49.)

WITNESSES:

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada:

Michael Olsen, Director General, Corporate Affairs;

Simon Cardinal, Director General, Corporate Secretariat.

Office of the Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner:

Ron Kruzeniski, Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Olsen made a statement and, together with Mr. Cardinal, answered questions.

At 11:45 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:50 a.m., the committee resumed.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Kruzeniski made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:38 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
