The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 10:59 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Gwen Boniface, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Boniface, Dagenais, Gold, Griffin, Jaffer, Manning, McIntyre, McPhedran, Oh, Pratte and Richards (12).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Deacon (Nova Scotia) (1).

In attendance: Christine Yeung and Ariel Shapiro, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-59, An Act respecting national security matters. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 40.)

Mr. Segal and Mr. Wark each made a statement and together answered questions.
