The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Art Eggleton, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bernard, Eggleton, P.C., Griffin, Manning, Mégie, Munson, Omidvar, Petitclerc, Poirier, Raine and Seidman (11).

In attendance: Shaila Anwar, Acting Deputy Principle Clerk, Senate Committees Directorate; Sonya Norris and Elizabeth Cahill, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 14, 2017, the committee began its study on issues relating to social affairs, science and technology generally (Topic: Registered Disability Savings Plan and Disability Tax Credit).

WITNESSES:

Autism Canada:

Dermot Cleary, Board Chair.

Diabetes Canada:

Kimberley Hanson, Director, Federal Affairs.

Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada:

Benjamin Davis, National Vice-President, Government Relations and President, Atlantic Division.

Canadian Psychological Association:

Karen Cohen, Chief Executive Officer.

Disability Tax Fairness Alliance:

Lembi Buchanan, Past Co-chair.

The Maytree Foundation:

Michael Mendelson, Maytree Fellow (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Cleary, Ms. Hanson and Mr. Davis each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:37 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Mendelson, Ms. Cohen and Ms. Buchanan each made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:34 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
