The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:17 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Chantal Petitclerc, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cordy, Dasko, Eaton, Manning, Mégie, Munson, Petitclerc, Poirier, Ravalia and Seidman (10).

In attendance: Sonya Norris and Karin Phillips, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 14, 2017, the committee continued its study on issues relating to social affairs, science and technology generally. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 35.) (Topic: Study on Child and Youth Mental Health)

WITNESS:

National Association of Friendship Centres:

Dakota Laliberte, Aboriginal Youth Council Representative.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Laliberte made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:04 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:09 p.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, the committee began its examination of Bill S-248, An Act respecting National Physicians' Day.

WITNESSES:

As an individual:

The Honourable Art Eggleton, P.C., former senator, former sponsor of the bill (by video conference).

Canadian Medical Association:

Dr. Sandy Buchman, President-Elect.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Eggleton, and Dr. Buchman each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:47 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
