Senate spreads holiday cheer with Toys for Tots campaign
Senators and staff on Parliament Hill collected a mountain of presents for underprivileged kids in the National Capital Region this holiday season as part of the Toys for Tots campaign.
Senators Diane Bellemare, Patricia Bovey, Yonah Martin, Grant Mitchell, Jim Munson, Victor Oh and Kim Pate helped to load boxes of toys onto a military truck on Friday, December 15, 2017.
The toy drive took place under the leadership of Speaker of the Senate George J. Furey.
Toys for Tots is a Canadian charity based on local partnerships between Canadian Armed Forces, businesses and citizens that provides toys to children who are in need.
This year’s donations will be distributed to the St. Joe's Women's Centre; Minwaashin Lodge, an Indigenous women’s support centre; and Tewegan Housing for Aboriginal Youth, a transitional home for Indigenous people women aged 16 to 29 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
