The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met at 11:20 a.m. this day, in the Ballrooom 1 of the Valhalla Inn in Thunder Bay, Ontario, the Chair, the Honourable Gerry St. Germain, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dyck, Hubley, Lovelace Nicholas, Peterson, Sibbeston and St. Germain, P.C. (6).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament, Tonina Simeone.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, the committee continued its study on the involvement of aboriginal communities and businesses in economic development activities in Canada. (See Issue No. 2, Wednesday, May 31, 2006, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

The Chair made opening remarks.

Mr. Morris made a statement and answered questions.
