The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day in room 2, Victoria Building, at 5:40 p.m., the Chair, the Honourable Tommy Banks, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Angus, Banks, Cochrane, Fox, P.C., Kenny, Sibbeston and Spivak (8).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Frédéric Beauregard-Tellier, Kristen Douglas and Lynne Myers.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2006, the committee continued its review on the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (1999, c. 33) pursuant to Section 343(1) of the said act. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers:

Brian Maynard, Vice-President, Stewardship and Public Affairs.

Canadian Chemical Producers' Association:

Gordon Lloyd, Vice-President, Technical Affairs.

Canadian Consumer Specialty Products Association:

Shannon Coombs, Executive Director.

Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters:

Nancy Coulas, Director, Environmental Policy.

The Chair made an opening statement.

Ms. Coulas, Mr. Maynard, Ms. Coombs and Mr. Lloyd each gave a presentation and answered questions.

The Chair made a closing statement.

At 7:44 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
