The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:28 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Champagne, P.C., Cordy, Demers, Dyck, Eggleton, P.C., Martin, Merchant, Ogilvie, Seidman, Seth and Verner, P.C. (12).

In attendance: Brian O'Neal, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 17, 2011, the committee continued its study on social inclusion and cohesion in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 10.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police:

Chief Dale McFee, President.

Public Safety Canada:

Daniel Sansfaçon, Director, Policy, Research and Evaluation, National Crime Prevention Centre.

Statistics Canada:

Julie McAuley, Director, Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics;

John Turner, Chief of Analysis, Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics;

Mia Dauvergne, Senior Analyst, Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics.

Canadian Resource Centre for Victims of Crime:

Heidi Illingworth, Executive Director.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. McAuley, Mr McFee, Ms. Illingworth, and Mr. Sansfaçon each made a statement and, together with Mr. Turner and Ms. Dauvergne, answered questions.

At 12:29 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
