The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:46 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Boniface, Brazeau, Christmas, Dyck, Enverga, McPhedran, Mégie, Oh, Pate, Patterson, Raine, Tannas and Watt (14).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Dupuis and Sinclair (2).

In attendance: Brittany Collier and Sara Fryer, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Marcy Galipeau, Chief, Committees and Outreach, Senate Communications Directorate; Sonia L'Heureux, Parliamentary Librarian, Office of the Parliamentary Librarian.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 15, 2016, the committee continued its study on the new relationship between Canada and First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 16.)

WITNESSES:

As individuals:

John Morrisseau, Member of the Indian Residential School Survivor Committee;

Doris Young, Member of the Indian Residential School Survivor Committee.

Mr. Morrisseau and Ms. Young made statements and, together with Senator Sinclair, answered questions.

At 9:12 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
