The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day at 11:59 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Wanda Elaine Thomas Bernard, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Bernard, Brazeau, Cordy, Cormier, Martin, Pate and Patterson (9).

In attendance: Jean-Philippe Duguay and Erin Shaw, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-66, An Act to establish a procedure for expunging certain historically unjust convictions and to make related amendments to other Acts. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 27.)

APPEARING:

Royal Canadian Mounted Police:

Serge Côté, Chief Superintendent, Director General, Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services, Specialized Policing Services.

Parole Board of Canada:

Daryl Churney, Executive Director General, Record Suspension and Clemency.

The chair made a statement.

The minister made a statement and, together with Mr. Scromeda, Mr. Churney, Ms. Thomspon, Mr. Côté, and Ms. Connidis, answered questions.

At 12:59 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 1:03 p.m., the committee resumed.

At 1:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
