The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:46 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Dennis Glen Patterson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Enverga, Moore, Oh, Patterson, Raine and Tannas (6).

In attendance: Brittany Collier and Alexandre Lavoie, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 18, 2016, the committee continued its study on best practices and on-going challenges relating to housing in First Nation and Inuit communities in Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut and the Northwest Territories. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 3.)

WITNESS:

As an individual:

Mylène Riva, Assistant Professor, Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Laval (by video conference).

Trevor Bell, University Research Professor, Geography Department, Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Riva made a statement and answered questions.

The committee considered a draft agenda (future business).

The committee agreed to send a letter to the minister in charge of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation regarding housing in Nunavik.

Mr. Bell made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:47 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
